- ➤ Toledo will host several events in May including a Community Garage Sale at St Paul’s today from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. and The Birder’s Ball on May 8 at The Mez with live music and a silent auction benefiting Metroparks Toledo — additional events feature a car show at the Toledo Yacht Club starting May 15, Tattoo Fest from May 16 to 18 at the Glass City Center, and the Glass City Expo from May 30 to June 1 at Poe Road Music Sanctuary. - ➤ The 13th annual Autism Society of Northwest Ohio Walk is set for tomorrow at Franklin Park Mall on Monroe Street in Toledo, with registration and activities starting at 9 a.m. Participants will join the walk at 10 a.m. — the event raises funds and awareness for autism support programs that help local families — with check-in in the food court. ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ A motorcyclist named Bradley McClure, 55, died after his bike collided with a city-owned forestry vehicle at the Monroe and Upton intersection at 11:10 a.m. on May 2—police said the vehicle had halted its left turn when its driver noticed him. WTVG
- ➤ A local pastor was seriously hurt when a tree fell on his car on Secor Road on April 17, killing his passenger (Richard Miller, 35) and he recorded a thank-you message to the community while he is in rehab and church services continue. WTVG
CRIME NEWS
- ➤ A Toledo man, identified as John Jones (49), was arrested on May 1 for allegedly shooting at another man after a road rage incident at Delaware and Scottwood when the 56-year-old sprayed mace from his vehicle, police said. WTVG

- ➤ Blue Week 2025: ‘Storytelling in the Oak Openings’ is a week-long event hosted by the Green Ribbon Initiative and Metroparks Toledo that started on May 2 and will run through May 11 in the Oak Openings region. The program offers a Native Species Scavenger Hunt, Spring Wildflower Walk and a plant sale—featuring five growers at Blue Creek Seed Nursery in Whitehouse on May 10 and 11—to raise funds for native plant projects. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Ohio voters passed adult-use cannabis in November 2023, but Gov. DeWine’s office is pushing to double the sales tax and delay the launch of popular pre-rolls. Federal law under Section 280E forces licensed businesses to pay high taxes while simple possession arrests continue in other parts of the country (creating a clash between legal markets and outdated policies). - ➤ Toledo Fire & Rescue is providing free smoke alarm installation to help protect homes from fire hazards and will hold a meeting at 10 a.m. today at the Mott Library with representatives from the Red Cross and Safe Kids Greater Toledo. WTVG
- ➤ Juanita Morris, who has long worried about the sinking sidewalk by her home on Blum Street near Savage Park, said city crews fixed the main sanitary line on Tuesday—kickstarting repairs that continued on Thursday—and they plan to pour concrete soon to secure the area for residents. WTVG
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The Partners for Change initiative will support local groups to lower the high rate of infant loss among Black families, as studies show Black women in Toledo lose nearly three times as many babies as white women. Health leaders including Gov. DeWine and community advocate Latarasha Cook—who lost her child in 2020—say the state-backed program will bring needed resources to improve birth outcomes. WTOL
