  • Cherry Street Mission and Leadership Toledo will host a second chance job fair next Tuesday in Toledo to help job seekers by offering free haircuts, mock interviews and access to a career closet. The event will begin with a networking lunch at 12:30 p.m. before the fair runs from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m.—designed to support those facing barriers from past convictions.  WTVG

CRIME NEWS

  • A Penta Career Center student was taken into custody on May 1 after he allegedly brought a pocket knife and an air soft gun to school for protection during an after-school situation—officials said no students or staff were in danger and the case is under investigation.  WTVG

  • Toledo School for the Arts is starting its own record label and will release its first album today—introducing the Flying Pigs' music to local fans.  WTVG
  • Toledo-Lucas County Public Library created the Nancy Drew Fund to enhance and expand the Jennifer Fisher Nancy Drew Collection—the largest public collection of its kind—to support rare acquisitions and improve its display. The fund also honors local author Mildred Benson who wrote 23 of the first 30 Nancy Drew books under the pen name Carolyn Keene.  WTVG

  • On Saturday, Teri Hobson will receive a bachelor of science in nursing and her daughter Kayliana Ortiz will earn an associate’s degree in general studies at Toledo Early College, marking a milestone in their healthcare careers. Hobson, who has balanced work, school, and family for over 20 years at UTMC, inspires her daughter, who plans to study nursing in the fall (both celebrate hard work in Toledo).  The University of Toledo

  • Ohio lawmakers passed a sweeping energy reform bill on May 1. Donovan O’Neil from Americans for Prosperity-Ohio discussed the law on Action News Now and explained its impact on state energy policy.  WTVG
  • City officials said the homeowner must pay for repairs on her property before the city fixes the sewer main affected by an expanding sinkhole on Pinewood Avenue. The resident said the hole began on the street and spread into her yard plus she argued that the repair costs should not fall on her given the aging system.  WTVG
