COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A local nonprofit is hosting the Look Good, Feel Good event on Saturday, May 2 (10 a.m. to 1 p.m.) to provide free haircuts and grooming for Cherry Street Mission residents, inviting volunteer barbers, stylists, and helpers to support the community.  WTVG

BUSINESS NEWS

  • General Motors announced another $40M investment in the Toledo Propulsion Systems facility last night to expand production and upgrade technology. Officials say the funding will support improvements at the plant to drive future growth.  WTVG

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Toledo drivers are buying only enough gas to get by as rising fuel prices (AAA now reports regular unleaded at $4.22) force them to change fueling habits, and some adopt fuel-saving measures (combining errands and easing off early) while experts predict further increases.  WTVG

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Families and staff have raised concerns about the TPS restructuring plan that was approved and includes school closures, repurposing, and schedule shifts — they say the changes could disrupt routines. The decision may lead to adjustments in school operations.  WTOL
  • Civil engineering senior Caleb Sutherin will graduate Saturday and start his career with Choice One Engineering after completing three co-op rotations at UToledo. His early work helped him build a strong foundation and community ties (he first discovered drafting in high school).  The University of Toledo
  • Perrysburg High School theatre students shone at the Ohio Thespian Conference held April 10–12 at Chillicothe High School—senior Jordan Nahhas starred in Ragtime and junior Annabelle Bucko took part in a Broadway workshop—while director Kory Meinhart was honored as Theatre Educator of the Year.  WTOL

  • The Clean Toledo Recycling Center will open on June 2 at 3900 Creekside to offer year-round self-service recycling and waste disposal. Residents can use the facility for convenient recycling and waste management.  The Blade

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Toledo Area Regional Transit Authority will offer free bus rides to youth this summer as part of its Youth Summer Blast Pass program, now in its fourth year. The pass gives young riders a simple way to travel across local routes.  The Blade

HEALTH NEWS

  • Maumee now has its first NaloxBox to expand overdose response access after local officials identified a need for faster emergency care. The device will be placed at key community spots to help save lives.  The Blade

  • Toledo ace pitcher Nathan Leininger has seen his patience pay off as University of Toledo baseball returned its top three pitchers from last season's MAC staff, with All-American junior Jacob Tabor among those boosting a promising start for the season.  The Blade
  • UToledo introduced Tom Moreland as its new vice president and director of athletics on Wednesday, April 29; he is expected to lead the Rockets into a fresh chapter for the program.  The University of Toledo
