ACCIDENTS NEWS
- ➤ At about 5 a.m. Monday morning, Toledo Fire & Rescue responded to a fire on Arcadia Ave when a home's attic ignited and forced a nearby residence to evacuate. There were no injuries — investigators are looking into the cause. WTVG
- ➤ On Secor Road, a tree fell on a truck carrying members of Northwest Baptist Church after bible study, leaving pastor Andrew Edwards with serious injuries and killing church member Richard Miller while pastor Joe Ballard had already been dropped off—church leaders postponed Easter services and are easing families through the loss. - ➤ Ohio residents celebrated their first 4/20 since recreational sales became legal in August 2024 as high sales boosted dispensaries, growers and processors — Adrienne Robbins from the Ohio Cannabis Coalition said strict advertising rules and higher prices may challenge the industry's future growth. - ➤ Toledo native Eddie Jones, a 15-year U.S. Coast Guard veteran, invented Easy Jump in 2022 after he sketched out the idea at home to help people exercise without needing to get on the floor. - ➤ Isabel Trahan, a three-time kidney transplant recipient, will graduate on Saturday, May 3, from UToledo’s online health administration program — the university helped her complete her classes despite her health challenges. She plans to keep working at Nephrology Consultants of Northwest Ohio — and she hopes to move up to a higher-level management job later. The University of Toledo
- ➤ UToledo announced it will suspend admissions to several academic programs starting with the 2025–26 academic year to comply with Senate Bill 1 and recommendations from its Program Reallocation and Investment Committee—students already enrolled can complete their degrees without disruption. The university will still offer these subjects through minors and core courses while investing in new programs to meet demand. The University of Toledo
- ➤ UToledo announced it will suspend admission to low-enrollment undergraduate programs including Africana Studies, Asian Studies, and Data Analytics starting with the 2025—26 academic year to meet Senate Bill 1 requirements. Current students in these programs may complete their degrees. WTOL

- ➤ Toledo and Bowling Green State University are teaming up with a $2 million Department of Justice grant to study gun violence over three years—city officials note that while homicides dropped from 45 in 2023 to 37 in 2024, any loss is too many. WTVG

- ➤ The U.S. Supreme Court ruled that state immunization laws are a proper use of state power, and Ohio requires children in school and child care to be vaccinated against several diseases with exemptions for medical or religious reasons. Ohio colleges must record on-campus housing students’ vaccination status and nursing homes and hospitals must offer vaccines, plus local boards can provide shots for children who cannot get them otherwise.
