Good morning, Toledo. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 16th of April.

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On April 14, a 73-year-old man with dementia was reported missing and later found stuck in mud near the Auglaize River as Ohio State Highway Patrol, Putnam County Sheriff’s Office, and a drone team located him at 9:13 p.m.—he suffered minor injuries before being taken for evaluation.  WTVG

CRIME NEWS

  • The Toledo Humane Society says calls about animal abuse have risen sharply in recent weeks as cruelty investigators treat puppies with mange and dogs with serious wounds from neglect while a case with a dozen abused dogs and a cat bludgeoned to death is under review—officials warn that those found guilty may face jail time and fines.  WTVG
  • Tim Allen Chamberlain Jr., 37, is accused of beating the mother of his child in Toledo on April 2—he allegedly punched her in the eyes and nose, threw her to the ground, stepped on her hair to keep her down and threw her onto a grill, and he pleaded not guilty on April 15 when he was released on his own recognizance with no-contact and electronic monitoring orders.  WTVG

CULTURE NEWS

  • Toledo announced a summer concert series that will include 11 concerts featuring local bands starting May 30 and running every Friday until the end of August.  WTOL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Toledo will add a median and U-turn lanes next spring on Kenwood and Secor after plans for a roundabout were scrapped. Some Old Orchard residents remain uneasy about the changes because clear details on lane dimensions and property removal have not been provided — town hall meetings hosted by councilperson Sam Melden are planned for further discussion.  WTVG
  • Federal officials made cuts to several departments yesterday— including the Social Security Administration— and this has raised worries about the future of Social Security benefits among residents in our area.  WTVG
  • Last week the U.S. House passed the SAVE Act — a bill that would require in‑person proof of citizenship such as a birth certificate or passport to register to vote in federal elections — and it now goes to the Senate for review. Ohio leaders from both sides have expressed different views, with supporters saying it will boost election security and critics arguing it will limit voter access, though the bill does not affect the May election.  Toledo Free Press
