COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today the city of Toledo will launch its Let’s Get Moving program at Ottawa Park from 6 to 7 p.m. (The walk starts at the Liz Pierson Shelter.)  The Blade
  • Packo’s has been a Toledo staple for nearly 100 years and earned national recognition for its hearty meals and community spirit. The iconic restaurant continues to serve locals with beloved flavors and warm memories.  WTVG
  • Charles Boyk Law Offices is accepting nominations through June 14 for the 18th annual Bikes for Kids contest, where 10 local children with inspiring stories will win free bikes with helmets and locks. Winners will be announced in summer, with bikes fitted by Toledo’s oldest partner (Wersell’s Bike Shop).  WTVG

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A house fire burned a home on State Line Rd. overnight on Wednesday with no injuries and several pets missing (a space heater is suspected to have started the fire) according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.  WTVG

  • UToledo named Lutz as interim VP and Director of Athletics after serving as the senior associate athletic director of compliance and integrity — the university began a national search to replace Bryan Blair, who recently left for Syracuse.  The University of Toledo
  • The University of Toledo was named in the U.S. News & World Report's 2026 Best National Universities Rankings on April 8. This honor shows the school’s strong standing among the nation’s top institutions.  The University of Toledo
  • The Davis Besse Nuclear Power Plant will expand its nuclear education and safety programs as local energy demand grows. Officials said new measures will soon be introduced to train staff and protect local communities.  WTVG

  • A project at Detwiler Park Golf Course is receiving over $1 million in funding to reduce flooding and protect local waterways + officials said improvements will soon start.  WTOL

  • Residents preparing to file taxes face changes to the tax code and rising scams as the filing deadline is one week away — officials urge verifying filing methods to protect personal information.  WTVG
  • The Maumee sewer division building at 214 Illinois Ave. invites residents to an open house to learn about facility conditions (and planned improvements). Attendees can ask questions and gain insight into upcoming updates.  The Blade
  • Owens Corning filed a request yesterday to extend its property tax exemption and officials will review the application in the coming days.  WTVG

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today, Life Connection of Ohio is hosting a 24‑hour live stream of the Green Chair sit‑in to raise organ donation awareness—each seat stands for a life saved and someone still waiting for a donor.  WTOL
  • Free dental care is offered by Dental Excellence Group at four sites as part of its 15th annual event. Registration starts at 7:45 a.m. on April 10 at Napoleon’s 875 Westmoreland Avenue for 100 patients; similar care is offered on April 17 in Delta and on April 24 in Maumee and Sylvania.  WTVG
  • A Toledo mother said her 14-year-old daughter took 17 Benadryl tablets during a dangerous social media challenge, causing her to run through the neighborhood at 3 a.m. and be taken to the ER. She urges parents to discuss medication risks with their children, plus stay vigilant.  WTVG
