  • Seventy-three veterans returned home from a one-day trip to Washington, D.C. on April 1 to visit national war memorials and reconnect with fellow service members — they flew from Toledo Express Airport on JetBlue for a faster route and attended a welcome home ceremony with family and volunteers.  Toledo Free Press

CRIME NEWS

  • Authorities found a fatal shooting victim inside a crashed car on April 8th — officials are investigating the incident.  WTVG
  • Toledo Police are searching for a family missing since March from near the 3500 block of Executive Parkway, including Amenia Reinoso, 28, and her children Mohammad Rahim, 7 and Abdul Rahim, 3, with anyone who has tips asked to call Crime Stoppers — 419-255-1111 — as they work to locate them.  WTVG
  • Police found a deceased man in a white car that crashed into a truck on Peck St. near Lagrange just before midnight — his fatal shooting is under investigation with no suspect or motive identified.  WTVG
  • Judge Jack Puffenberger ruled Tuesday that Dorothy Latigue can plan her granddaughter Kei’Mani’s funeral because she had custody when Kei’Mani died — she said she will invite Kei’Mani’s mother to both a public and private service later this week — after the teen’s body was found on Miami Street.  WTVG

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lucas County Children Services held a briefing on April 8 about the case of Kei’Mani Latigue, a 13-year-old girl found dead in an abandoned home allegedly killed by her father—executive director Randy Muth explained that the agency had investigated three abuse reports and kept her in her grandmother's care before a task force was approved amid community backlash.  WTVG
  • A judge ruled on who will run Kei'Mani Latigue’s funeral services and estate after Kei'Mani’s mother, Tiara Kasten—served a deposition by Dorothy Latigue—was asked to appear in court; further hearings will decide the final arrangements.  WTOL

  • Toledo will host a new marathon on September 21 as Garmin launches its own race series with a full marathon, half marathon, 10K and 5K recognized by USATF. An expo will occur before the race and a finish line festival will follow to celebrate the event (featuring Garmin meet and greets alongside local food and entertainment).  WTVG
