COMMUNITY NEWS

  • A survivor-led conference is set for Wednesday, April 8 at UToledo’s Heath and Human Services Building, where those with lived experiences will guide community members, professionals, and students on better supporting survivors of violence, exploitation, and abuse. Tickets cost $10 for students and $99 for professionals with proceeds supporting the presenters’ goals.  WTVG

  • Robertsims Indoor Golf, a new facility in downtown Neapolis, opens today at 10 a.m. offering over 2,000 simulated courses with advanced camera feedback provided by Clarity Golf. The Robertsons and Clarity co-owners Carson and Wilson Bales joined forces to create a vibrant community space for golfers and families.  Toledo Free Press

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Toledo gas prices dropped 13 cents last week, averaging $3.68 per gallon Sunday — a decrease after a month-long rise but still 31 cents above last month’s average and 57 cents above last year’s.  WTOL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UToledo marks Financial Literacy Month by offering free events to build money skills. The university hosts a free 'Paint a Piggy Bank' event today from 5 to 7 p.m. in Thompson Student Union Room 2548 and offers one-on-one sessions with Financial Wellness counselors (email [email protected]).  The University of Toledo
  • After Lourdes University closed due to financial issues, the University of Toledo set up a teach-out agreement so that all students in good standing automatically transfer into similar programs (with credits transferring) and Marietta College offered a secure transfer pathway.   • University of Toledo biochemistry student Victoria Ho earned the prestigious Goldwater Scholarship after being chosen from over 5,000 candidates for her research on safer pain management options for elders.   • Residents gathered Monday, Apr. 6 to review plans for a potential solar field project in the old south end. City officials said the historic initiative is expected to boost local clean energy options.  WTVG

HEALTH NEWS

  • Today at the Fremont library, the North Ohio-Lake Erie Nurse Honor Guard held a demonstration to honor local nurses and support grieving families after the loss of Rose Wurm—a nurse for over 40 years. Volunteers plan free living tributes in May to recognize nurses in the region.  WTVG
  • On Apr. 6, Dr. Jian-Ting Zhang and Dr. Imran Ali of the University of Toledo formed the Northwest Ohio Cancer Research Institute to improve local health care.  The University of Toledo
