COMMUNITY NEWS

  • After the death of 13-year-old Kei'Mani Latigue in a blighted east Toledo property nearly two weeks ago, community members have pushed for safe spaces where teens can grow and learn—self-ESTEAM, a nonprofit started in 2019 by five women, now offers free programs for young women of color ages 12 to 18. The initiative aims to build confidence and provide support in areas affected by drug abuse, teen pregnancy, and human trafficking.  WTOL

CRIME NEWS

  • Jose Cruz-Aguilar, 41, who was found illegally in this country for a fifth time, appeared in a Toledo courtroom on Friday where he pleaded not guilty to an illegal reentry charge—he could face up to two years in prison and removal if convicted.  WTVG

  • UToledo will host its 88th Songfest today to raise money for Mom’s House and Adam Fredritz will co-emcee the event for the Mortar Board National Senior Honor Society in the university's second-oldest tradition.  The University of Toledo
  • Dr. Matt Foss and Dr. Rebecca Monteleone will lead a new production of A Midsummer Night's Dream: A Jukebox Musical at the Center for Performing Arts from April 10–19—featuring student and community actors in a reimagined take on the classic play. SPORTS NEWS

  • The University of Toledo and head women’s basketball coach Ginny Boggess agreed on a contract extension through the 2029-2030 season, announced Friday by the Athletics Department. Boggess led the team to a 24-9 record last season—one win shy of matching school records—and will continue to lead the Rockets in future games.  WTVG
