COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Sunshine Communities teams with Mobile Meals to deliver prepared meals to local seniors. Volunteer Tammy, who has developmental disabilities, says this work is her favorite as the program brings inclusion to every door in our community.  The Blade
  • A memorial event was held today to honor Kei'Mani Latigue on what would have been her 15th birthday; community members gathered (with sincere tributes) to remember her life and impact.  WTVG

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The University of Toledo will host Pulitzer Prize-winning poet Natasha Trethewey for the Richard M. Summers Memorial Lecture on Thursday, Apr. 2 from 5:30 to 7 p.m. in McQuade Law Auditorium (1825 W. Rocket Dr.), with free public admission and ample parking available.  The University of Toledo
  • On Sunday, Vivek Ramaswamy defended his claim that Ohio should consolidate public universities for cost savings and efficiency; local education officials will review the proposal in upcoming meetings.  WTVG
  • Grant Hubley, a senior at AW High School, joined the U.S. Senate Youth Program (USSYP) in Washington, D.C. from Mar. 7 to 14 and met senators, military leaders and policy experts, which strengthened his plans to pursue public service.  Toledo Free Press
  • Kim Grilliot (president for 23 years at Notre Dame Academy) announced she will retire in 2027 and the school will soon begin its search for a new leader.  The Blade
  • Monclova Christian Academy teacher Michelle Keaster is honored as Outstanding Music Educator of the Year by the Toledo Symphony and recognized for 17 years of dedication in music education.  The Blade
  • Jesup Scott Honors College at UT is collecting new and gently used books and puzzles for a free library initiative (donations are accepted at the college office) that will support students and community members.  The Blade
  • Owens Community College hosts Autism Awareness Week events from Monday to Friday on campus to promote understanding of autism. The programs invite students, faculty, and community members to participate in engaging activities.  The Blade

  • This day in history is marked by environmentalist Selma Rubin’s birth in Toledo (a local champion of conservation) whose legacy continues to inspire efforts to safeguard natural resources.  WTVG

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Route 795 bridge over I-75 will close next week for a 75-day repair, causing detours for some of Ed Nagle’s truck drivers during Toledo’s busy 2026 construction season.  The Blade
  • The Toledo Department of Transportation announced that two blocks of West Toledo street will be closed for reconstruction for one month starting today.  The Blade

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ohio State Patrol officer Matt Geer received a life-saving kidney from Rossford Police Officer Michael Shaffer today and both are recovering from surgery while 14 first responders volunteered testing to find a match. The generous act unites the local police community in saving lives.  WTVG
