BUSINESS NEWS

  • Toledo-area coffee roasters and shop owners face 15—20% price rises as severe weather in Brazil and Vietnam lowers bean supplies. Local shops may pass higher costs — mainly affecting wholesale orders as distributor buying power remains weak.  WTOL

CRIME NEWS

  • Toledo police and the family are searching for 13-year-old Keimani Latigue, who went missing after 10 p.m. Sunday when her father said she called him about a possible break-in—her home was found in disarray with her keys, glasses, and pajamas left behind and a gas smell from an on stove.  WTVG

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Forty area employers will take part in a job fair hosted by Toledo Library and OhioMeansJobs tomorrow at the Main Library at 325 n. Michigan St. The fair, running from 10 a.m.—1 p.m., will let job seekers meet recruiters from local businesses, non-profit organizations and government agencies.  WTVG

EDUCATION NEWS

  • UToledo will hold a Research Celebration on April 2 at Savage Arena to showcase innovative work by faculty and students as part of its new Carnegie R1 Classification. The event features interactive posters and table displays from 3 to 5 p.m.—a brief program with remarks by Interim President Matt Schroeder is scheduled for 3:30 p.m.  The University of Toledo
  • HOPE Toledo said that seventy percent of children in Lucas County start kindergarten unprepared for learning. Supporters met at Glass City Center today to discuss launching a free pre-K program that aims to improve early education and lower future economic costs.  WTOL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Toledo’s Parks and Youth Services is accepting applications for a Youth Advisory Board that will include 12 to 18 students ages 14 to 18 who will serve a two-year term to influence city park design, operations and programming. The board will meet monthly and work with officials and community leaders on projects to boost youth engagement and leadership—applications remain open until April 15.  WTVG
  • The Lucas County Board of Elections needs Election Day workers, Precinct Election Officials and seasonal workers for the May 6 general election — jobs pay between $14 and $21 an hour with some paid training and seasonal work starts on April 6. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, at least 18, registered voters in Lucas County and have reliable transportation.  WTOL
  • The Toledo salary review commission recommended a 12% raise for the mayor to $152,320 and an 8.6% raise for council members to $48,870, and the full city council will vote on these proposals by June — the increases are meant to account for cost-of-living adjustments over a four-year term.  WTVG

HEALTH NEWS

  • Dr. Kunal Yadav, a UToledo Health transplant surgeon, performed UTMC's first pancreas transplant (a historic milestone) on March 19th for patients with Type 1 diabetes who need kidney transplants. He explained that the new procedure offers benefits (complementing kidney transplants) and can improve patient outcomes.  The University of Toledo
