  • Local mom Wanda Butts turned her loss into a mission by founding the Josh Project to offer low-cost swim lessons and water safety education for Toledo kids—an effort boosted by a $1,300 donation from Yark Automotive Group and 13 Action News.  WTVG
  • Maumee Valley Habitat for Humanity will host ReStore the Earth on April 12 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Calvary Church at 1360 Conant Street in Maumee — community members can drop off recyclable items including electronics, paper, cardboard, Styrofoam, up to 4 tires, furniture and latex paint.  WTVG

  • A man accused of multiple aggravated robberies in south Toledo had his bond set — Marcus Page will return to court in April.  WTOL

  • Issue Box Theatre will host Ms. Cast, a one-night cabaret where local artists take on roles beyond normal casting rules, on Sunday, Mar. 23 at 2 p.m.—this event marks the theater's 10 years of using art to address social issues in our community.  Toledo City Paper

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Mayor Wade Kapszukiewicz will announce the new Kid Mayor at 1:30 p.m. today—after a competitive process where hundreds of students applied and 13 finalists were chosen, one to serve as Kid Mayor and 12 to join the Kid Council.  WTVG
  • Local agencies DOGE and HUD cut key housing services in Lucas and Wood counties amid a national crisis, leaving many residents with fewer ways to report housing discrimination. The Fair Housing Center is pursuing a class action suit and urges Toledoans to call their representatives for help—action that aims to restore support for those affected.  WTVG

HEALTH NEWS

  • UToledo Health expanded its transplant program to include pancreas transplants—its first procedure in February helped patient Taylor Iceman avoid dialysis and insulin shots after his simultaneous kidney and pancreas transplant for Type 1 diabetes and kidney failure. The move builds on the hospital’s long-standing kidney transplant expertise and will offer more treatment options to local patients.  The University of Toledo
