COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Toledo Catholic Sisters hosted their sixth annual Stuff the Truck food drive yesterday at Walt Churchill's Market in Maumee to collect food donations and cash for the Toledo Seagate Food Bank, which supports families across northwest Ohio.  WTVG
  • Central Catholic High School hosted a naturalization ceremony on Friday, Mar. 13, welcoming 41 new U.S. citizens while students took part in the event.  WTOL
  • The Toledo Humane Society rescued 28 dogs from a local home last week after cruelty officers found the animals living in bad conditions (the group is now caring for the dogs while planning next steps).  WTOL

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • High winds left over 2,600 customers without power near Toledo Executive Airport as Lake High School continued its day without electricity; outages spread to Archbold, Swanton, Waterville, and Stony Ridge.  WTVG

  • Party in the Park has announced its 2026 concert lineup with a Friday St. Patrick’s Day kickoff in a local park (a festive celebration for music lovers).  The Blade
  • NAMI Greater Toledo invites local artists to submit work for the Creative Expressions Art Gala, an event that celebrates mental health and recovery. Submissions earn a free ticket to the inaugural gala, set for Thursday, Apr. 2 at 7 p.m. at River Gallery Studio (500 Madison Ave).  Toledo City Paper

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Strong winds damaged the roof of Toth Elementary School in Perrysburg on Friday, Mar. 13 (school officials are assessing repairs).  WTVG

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ohio is set to hold a statewide tornado drill on Wednesday, Mar. 18 at 9:50 a.m. — Derek Witt explains the drill will help improve emergency preparedness.  WTVG

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Veterans Affairs office in Ann Arbor is updating health records to improve care for Toledo veterans, and the planned changes will help veterans access their information more easily. The update is expected to streamline service for those in the community.  WTOL

SPORTS NEWS

  • Toledo men’s and women’s teams will compete in the MAC Tournament Championship Saturday at Rocket Arena in Cleveland. The women, after a 69-65 win over Ball State, will face Miami at 11 a.m. while the men, beating UMass, will play Akron at 8 p.m. for their first title since 1980.  WTOL
  • On Thursday, Briggs led Toledo basketball to a thrilling win over BG at Rocket Arena — setting the stage for a historic March madness run.  The Blade
  • Garrett Van Wyhe scored in the first period and again in the third to help the Toledo Walleye secure a road victory over Savannah. The team earned a 5-point win that added momentum to their season.  The Blade
  • Dave White Chevrolet Basketball Friday's season finale will feature postseason tournament coverage from OHSAA and MAC, including the Bellevue vs. Laurel state championship and Toledo teams' MAC semifinal games.
