COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Eatwell inside the Main Library in downtown Toledo will host an upcoming Jiggs dinner — community members can sign up to support the cause.  WTOL
  • The University of Toledo hosted the launch of the 2026 Veo-Scooter season on Mar. 10, with City of Toledo revealing last year’s ridership numbers and offering a $5 ride credit for active rider accounts.  The University of Toledo
  • Toledo Lucas County Public Library said it will open a new branch outside Blue Creek Metropark in Whitehouse Village. The library made the decision after reviewing budgets, timelines, and funding — further updates will be provided.  WTVG
  • In Swanton, the American Legion donated $5,000 to Backpack Buddies, a volunteer program that sends nutritious backpacks to students in need; the donation helped boost the program from 77 to 83 kids and may fund fresh food options soon.  WTVG

  • The University of Toledo Counseling Center and Recreational Services will host a sneaker ball on Thursday, Mar. 19 from 7 to 9 p.m. at the Student Recreation Center basketball courts.   • UToledo faculty and students received over $680,000 in federal grants to test new materials for NASA and the Army under extreme conditions. ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • In Toledo, a local solar field faces pushback after the president ended subsidies and tax breaks for renewable energy + rising energy costs spur the push for alternative options.  WTVG

  • Kershaw Ave. (between Sylvania Ave. and Charlestown Ave.) will be closed for one week starting today for a utility project, city officials said.  WTVG
  • Toledo Library announced that it is searching for an alternative branch location (within Whitehouse village limits) as part of its pivot strategy and will update the public once a new site is secured.  WTOL
  • Joe Napoli, president and CEO of the Mud Hens and Walleye, was appointed by Gov. Mike DeWine to the University of Toledo Board of Trustees to serve until July 1, 2028 — replacing Richard Walinski and G.
