COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The annual Seed Swap takes place at Scott High School on Saturday from 12-3 p.m. Community members can exchange seeds for local gardening projects.  WTVG
  • Toledo Helps Ukraine, a local nonprofit formed when the conflict began, ships supplies including generators and clothing to support Ukrainians facing hard winter conditions. Founder Alona Matchenko said community donations remain vital and that in September the group will host Ukrainian civic leaders to discuss governance during wartime.  WTOL
  • WTOL 11 hosted Framing Day on Feb. 25 to kick off the 10th Toledo St. Jude Dream Home Giveaway — tickets to win a 1,900 sqft home in Oregon’s Bay Meadows Estates and a 2026 Honda HR-V will go on sale in May to benefit St. Jude Children's Research Hospital.  WTOL

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Black Student Union held its 56th annual Fashion Show Tuesday night at Thompson Student Union Auditorium, where models showcased looks inspired by the theme Black Movies Across America — a nod to catchy film moments and cultural creativity.  The University of Toledo

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Toledo Public Schools will host kindergarten registration on March 4 from 5 to 7 p.m. at all elementary schools. Families with children turning five by Sept. 2 must bring documents (birth certificate, ID, immunization records, and proof of residence with custody papers if needed) to begin enrollment.  WTVG

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • O'Shea's Irish Pub in west Toledo was declared a nuisance property after over 160 calls and nearly 80 reports led officials to impose new age restrictions announced Wednesday, Feb. 25 — councilor John Hobbs warned the bar must have no further incidents or face a potential year-long closure.  WTOL
  • The traveler alert system will soon expand to private billboards in Toledo to display weather alerts for commuters. The upgrade is designed to boost travel safety.  WTOL
  • Starting March 8 at 9 p.m., the Monroe Street bridge will close for 150 days to reconstruct the interchange at US 23; the westbound-northbound on-ramp will permanently close on March 6 at 9 p.m. with lane restrictions guiding traffic adjustments through the weekend (ODOT).  WTVG

HEALTH NEWS

  • WTOL 11 meteorologist Kaylee Bowers shared her experience after receiving hurtful comments about her appearance+ she urged the community to show kindness and reminded those facing body image struggles to seek mental health support if needed.  WTOL

  • Toledo’s Huntington Center will host a summer roller hockey league starting in July with a pilot season from July 10 to Aug. 15 featuring four teams. Ticket sales for First In Line run until Feb. 27 at 4 p.m. with general season tickets available from Feb. 27 at 10 a.m.  WTVG
  • BGSU alum Taylor Kitchen, a native of Granville who overcame a chronic illness and blood clot, is covering NASCAR events with Motorsport in Austin this weekend. Her podcast, Above the Yellow Line, has attracted over 60,000 followers and spreads her passion for racing — a path that inspires local fans.  WTOL
