  • The inaugural Maumee River Fest will be held on April 11 (in Uptown Maumee) and features the first-ever Walleye Run 5K, a fishing tournament, food trucks, and activities for kids.  WTOL
  • Volunteers gather every Tuesday at Salem Lutheran Church (Huron Street) in the Vistula District to prepare meals for neighbors facing food insecurity. Pastor Hanck said the effort builds community ties and offers more than just a meal.  WTVG

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A fire in a heating element forced Dorr Elementary School staff to evacuate the building during student drop-off yesterday as firefighters quickly responded — no one was injured.  WTVG

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Hamburger Mary's, a Toledo restaurant that opened in 2019 and moved to its current spot two years ago, closed permanently due to construction and economic hardship. Managers say the decision comes as ongoing construction continues in the area.  WTOL

  • The Toledo Museum of Art will host Cursed! The Power of Magic in the Ancient World from Mar. 21 to Jul. 5, showcasing nearly 75 objects that explore ancient magic — a rare opportunity for locals to understand historical beliefs in a modern context.  WTOL
  • Gene Kinn, 88, recalls meeting nine U.S. presidents (from JFK to George W. Bush) during his three-decade career at Toledo outlets and in Fostoria. He keeps photos, letters, and notes to preserve these special moments in history.  WTOL
  • Local musicians and historians celebrated jazz legend Art Tatum's Toledo roots by sharing memories of his influential performances at the Otterbein Sunset House and discussing his journey from a skilled piano tuner to an iconic figure in the city's music history (featuring research by local experts).  WTVG

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • UToledo Distinguished University Professor Dr. Todd Crail explained how seiches lower water levels in western Lake Erie and open research opportunities on storm surges. His findings were reported on Tuesday, Feb. 17.  The University of Toledo

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Today, Toledo Mayor Wade announced that the city will invest $20M in shovel-ready sites — boosting jobs and housing opportunities for residents. The proposal is expected to spur local development and create more community options in the near future.  The Blade
  • United Way and LISC Toledo are hosting the VITA program to offer free tax filing help for Lucas County residents (those receiving the Earned Income Tax Credit). Interested participants should review program details for eligibility and next steps.  WTOL
  • The Ohio Department of Agriculture expanded the spotted lanternfly quarantine to cover the entire state and now recommends treatment methods instead of community reporting. Residents are advised to follow the updated guidelines to manage the invasive pest.  WTOL

HEALTH NEWS

  • Danny's Cafe manager Mariah Segura used her CPR training + provided by the Rossford Fire Department a day earlier to help customer Mike Cairns when he suffered a heart emergency on Feb. 11 in Rossford. Cairns was taken to the hospital after her quick action stabilized him until EMTs arrived.  WTOL
  • On March 7 at 11 a.m., the Toledo chapter of The Links, Inc. hosts the Black Family Wellness Expo at Ella. P Stewart Academy for Girls to offer free health screenings + activities and information for black families.  WTVG
  • A free CPR training event is happening Saturday at the YMCA on Bancroft, where Empowered Wellness Foundation and the YMCA offer hands-on lessons in CPR, AED use, and first aid while giving away CPR kits (while supplies last) to help Toledo residents learn potentially life-saving skills.  WTVG
