CULTURE NEWS

  • On Feb. 17, 2026, Toledo residents gathered to honor Jesse Jackson for his civil rights legacy (celebrating his impact on community progress) during a local remembrance that reflected his enduring influence.  WTVG
  • Country artist Aaron Lewis will perform on June 25 at 8 p.m. at Sylvania's Centennial Terrace this summer. Tickets will go on sale Friday at 10 a.m. online at ticketmaster.com and at the Huntington Center Box Office, with same-day sales available at the venue.  WTOL
  • Catholic leaders and students in Toledo are establishing the National Shrine of St. Carlo Acutis to boost youth faith and education. The project includes planned pilgrimages, a fall celebration of a young saint's canonization, and efforts for property acquisition and nonprofit designation (with art on display at Immaculate Conception Church).  WTOL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • After a mass resignation in December, Lourdes University appointed new trustees who have now voted to close the school (following the Sisters of St. Francis' announcement). The decision will affect plans for current students and staff as the closing moves forward.  The Blade

  • The 'Make It Make Sense' program will launch in July to offer 12 youth ages 18-24 a paid internship at WGTE Public Media, where they will gain production skills and produce town halls and documentaries — a project funded by the Greater Toledo Community Foundation and set for impact evaluation.  WTOL

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The National Weather Service will launch a new tool on March 2 to issue Conditional Intensity forecasts with intensity groups (CIG1, CIG2, CIG3) that help Toledo forecasters gauge storm strength and update severe weather warnings.  WTOL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents at Palmer Gardens have been without water since Monday due to a private water main break— a notice states restoration should occur tomorrow afternoon and Councilman Sam Melden is seeking help amid missing on-site management.  WTVG
  • The Martin Luther King Bridge in downtown Toledo will close on Tuesday and Wednesday for an upgrade project, with the closure from 9:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. each day and a detour planned along Front and Summit streets (via Craig Memorial Bridge).  WTOL
  • Toledo City Council recognized Waite High School graduate and WNBA star Natasha Howard for her achievements at Tuesday's meeting.  WTOL
  • Toledo officials plan to hold owners of vacant homes accountable after a local investigative series (11 Investigates) revealed out-of-town landlords contributing to neighborhood blight. The city will soon require registration of vacant homes to address property neglect.  WTOL

  • Doctors at Mercy Health St. Vincent Medical Center performed the first BATMAN heart procedure in Toledo last week using multiple catheters to replace a failing tissue valve in a high-risk patient.  WTVG
