  • Lucas County Commissioner Lisa Sobecki said a youth hiring event will showcase local career options on April 14 from 9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Glass City Center.  WTOL

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • A major water main break near Monroe and Robinwood caused streets to flood and water to spew into the air—video shows the incident—and crews began repairs last night.  WTVG

  • Ideal Bakery at 101 W Madison St in Gibsonburg continues a long family tradition as owner John Schell II makes donuts and Cinnamon Rounds with recipes passed down since 1922; visitors can watch the crew work and see the industrial oven from Tiedtkes.  WTVG

CULTURE NEWS

  • Award-winning jazz pianist Lisa Sung will perform as the guest at the Art Tatum Memorial Concert at UToledo & the event will honor Art Tatum’s musical legacy.  WTOL
  • Lucas County recognized Black History during an event (yesterday) that celebrated contributions of local African American residents. Officials said the program is part of ongoing community initiatives to honor cultural legacy in the area.  WTVG

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lourdes University announced that it will close permanently at the end of the academic year because enrollment has dropped and costs have risen.  WTOL

HEALTH NEWS

  • T-Town Smiles, a nonprofit dental office serving patients on Medicaid and low incomes, celebrated six months of community dentistry after being launched by former low-cost dental office employees. It held an open house on Feb. 11 (4447 Talmadge Road, Suite B) to mark the milestone.  WTVG
  • 6-year-old Brett Piszker, who underwent open heart surgery as an infant for a congenital heart defect, is now making strides on the local wrestling mat. His family says his determined spirit continues to inspire awareness during American Heart Month.  WTOL
