COMMUNITY NEWS

  • St. Paul's Community Center receives a $1,300 helping hand from Yark Automotive Group and 13 Action News (its partners) to support its winter crisis program in downtown Toledo. Current operations serve 40 to 45 guests a night with meals, shelter, and essential resources during harsh winter weather.  WTVG
  • The Rotary Club of Toledo assisted Sunshine Communities on its monthly service day + showing its commitment to local support.  WTOL
  • Residents from Sunshine Communities are shopping for dresses ahead of Night to Shine Prom, an event that will celebrate community spirit and offer participants an evening of fun. The prom will be held soon at a local venue (organizer details pending) (final event time to be announced).  WTVG

CULTURE NEWS

  • To celebrate Black History Month, the Board of Lucas County Commissioners will raise the Pan-African flag at One Government Center at 10:30 a.m. today and hold a meeting with spoken word while TLCPL and local groups plan exhibits and a concert on Feb. 22 across Toledo.  WTVG

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Gas prices in Toledo fell 22 cents over the past week, reaching as low as $2.27 and as high as $2.99 per gallon (data from 315 stations); they are 13.3 cents lower than a year ago though still 12.9 cents above last month’s average.  WTOL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • David Young from Toledo Excel emphasized the value of role models like Chamique Holdsclaw and Maurice Clarett at UToledo's 42nd Annual Conference for Aspiring Youth. The event provided guidance to middle and high school students and took place on Feb. 2.  The University of Toledo
  • Ritter Planetarium at UToledo will screen two astronomy programs: 'Big Astronomy: People, Places, Discoveries' at 7:30 p.m. Fridays until Feb. 27 and 'A Teenager's Guide to the Galaxy' at 1 p.m. Saturdays until Feb. 28 (admission is $8 for adults and $6 for others with free parking in Area 1N).  The University of Toledo

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Dr. William Hintz (associate professor of ecology) said reducing road salt use could help protect local water and wildlife after concerns were raised yesterday about its overuse harming the environment. His remarks call for more responsible winter road maintenance.  The University of Toledo

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Traffic fatalities in Ohio dropped 3% in 2025 compared to 2024 with 32 fewer deaths, saving 231 lives over four years; state officials credit improved road safety programs + tougher distracted driving laws for the reduction.  Toledo Legal News
  • The Lucas County Probate Court warned residents about scam calls pretending to come from its office and urged them to verify caller identity before sharing personal details.  WTVG

HEALTH NEWS

  • UToledo Health has named Dr. Daniel A. Frattarelli as chief physician executive and he will begin on Monday, Feb. 9 to lead nearly 400 providers while also serving as associate dean at the College of Medicine and Life Sciences.  The University of Toledo
  • The Victory Center is hosting a men's mental health and cancer support event today at its central community facility (a meeting point for local men seeking resources).  WTOL
  • Central Catholic High School is hosting a two-night raffle for Colton Strong Kids to help families fight pediatric cancer. The fundraiser was created by the mother of Colton Stanley (6), who became cancer-free in November, and tonight is the final chance to enter.  WTOL

  • Gabe Alvarez returns as Toledo Mud Hens manager for a second season after an 84 to 66 record last year, with returning coaches + a new bullpen coach, as the team will open away on March 27 and host a game on April 7.  WTVG
