  • Schmucker’s Restaurant’s iconic neon sign, a Toledo landmark since 1948, is being recreated by local experts (Toledo Sign with Bent Custom Neon) as the aging structure is retired, ensuring the classic look endures for fans of Toledo history.  WTOL
  • Local venues in Toledo, Bowling Green and Monroe host Black History Month events this February. Toledo Lucas County Public Library offers film screenings and word mixers while Bowling Green State University and Monroe Community College stage additional cultural programs (including a blues concert) for residents to celebrate Black heritage.  WTOL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. William M. Goldman is set to present three free public lectures on manifold geometry at UToledo from Feb. 4 to Feb. 6. The talks will be held at Savage and Associates Business Complex Room 1140 and University Hall, and campus parking requires payment through ParkMobile + a daily permit.  The University of Toledo
  • UToledo will host a Graduate Programs Fair on Wednesday, Feb. 11 from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Four Seasons Bistro on Health Science Campus, offering graduate application fee waivers and guidance for employees, current students, and interested individuals (from other universities).  The University of Toledo
  • Ohio families can use the READYSAVE 529 app to open accounts, contribute as little as $25, track deposits, add beneficiaries, and make withdrawals for college expenses (all via smartphones).   • The Ohio Department of Agriculture added Lucas County to the Box Tree Moth quarantine zone to slow the spread of an invasive pest that threatens boxwood shrubs — residents and landscapers are advised not to move boxwoods out of the zone.  WTOL
