COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Today the NAACP held a service at Macedonia Baptist Church to honor Dr. King's legacy with gospel music, prayer and speeches. Local groups & high school students packed food bags to provide a healthy meal for children in need.  WTVG
  • Coach Ryan Glaze’s son Jordan is battling cancer and the community is rallying to help him with the All Arms Around Jordan fundraiser this Sunday. Yark Automotive Group & 13 Action News have donated $1,300 to support his upcoming surgery in January.  WTVG

  • Kung Fu Tea in west Toledo offers a variety of boba and hot tea options for local customers seeking a refreshing beverage twist. The business continues to bring diverse flavors to the community.  WTOL

CULTURE NEWS

  • Metroparks Toledo is hosting Hiker Fest Saturday at Oak Openings Preserve Metropark to guide hikers along scenic trails. Local volunteers lead the hikes and invite residents to explore nature.  The Blade
  • Robert Smith, director of the African American Legacy Project, was honored today with the Ohio Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Governor’s Humanitarian Award (a statewide honor) for his work preserving Toledo’s African American history. He plans to create a historic district on Dorr Street named for jazz pianist Art Tatum.  WTVG

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Dr. Sam Tsemberis (CEO of the Pathways Housing First Institute) will deliver his lecture 'Homelessness Services at a Crossroads' at noon on Tuesday, Jan. 27 in McQuade Law Auditorium, and the College will screen Beyond the Bridge on Friday, Jan. 23 at 6 p.m.  The University of Toledo
  • Data science junior Yash Ghadge began his hands on internship with Toledo Athletics in November at Savage Arena, where he works with Henry Davidson using real datasets to build a social media dashboard. The program, launched with UToledo’s School of Interdisciplinary Data Science, gives students practical experience linking data+sports.  The University of Toledo
  • Ohio education officials released a model AI policy for public, community and STEM schools to guide safe and ethical AI use—districts must adopt a formal policy by July 1. Director Stephen D.   • Rosary Cathedral Catholic School welcomed Rev. Cedrick Brock on Tuesday to deliver a message connecting Martin Luther King Jr. and Jesus for young learners.  The Blade

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Ohio raised its minimum wage to $11 an hour for non-tipped workers and $5.50 for tipped workers on Jan. 1, 2026 + the change also increased the business gross receipts threshold from $394K to $405K, in line with state law.  Toledo Legal News

  • A Toledo mom traveled 4,300 miles (a remarkable journey) to see her daughter play her first University of Toledo women’s basketball game against Western Michigan. After the game, players and families shared warm embraces in the stands.  The Blade
