COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Northwest Ohio state, business & student leaders spoke at an official launch party celebrating America's 250th birthday. Held in Columbus, the event set the stage for continued commemorative activities.  The Blade
  • The 2026 Greater Toledo Auto Show will run Jan. 30-Feb. 1 at Glass City Center, where visitors will explore new vehicle models, interactive tech exhibits (from over 20 manufacturers), and family activities with a charity gala on Jan. 29 that benefits local children’s charities.  WTOL
  • Toledo Lucas County Public Library announced Monday that construction on the new Washington Branch is well underway. The branch will expand local services in Washington (details on the opening schedule are pending).  The Blade

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Recipients of government assistance in Toledo can use a Kroger Plus membership to get discounted fresh produce — a program designed to improve access to healthy food.  WTOL

CULTURE NEWS

  • The city, the University of Toledo and the Human Relations Commission will stream the Martin Luther King Jr. Experience on Jan. 19 at (10 a.m.) with speakers, tours and cultural performances online and at the Toledo Museum of Art.  WTOL

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Springfield Local Schools and the support staff union reached a tentative agreement that ends the work stoppage + all employees return to work today as schools reopen on their normal schedule.  WTVG
  • Students at Cardinal Stritch Catholic High School & Academy planted the first seeds for a prairie project on Monday morning on campus. The effort began a native habitat restoration that will boost outdoor learning opportunities.  The Blade

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The U.S. National Ice Center is tracking ice across the Great Lakes to help coast guards plan ice-breaking operations as forecast cold and gusty winds will rapidly form ice around shallow Lake Erie this holiday weekend — affecting safe commerce and weather.  WTVG
  • Drivers face rough travel as the freeze-thaw cycle creates potholes on local roads today in Ohio. County engineers plan to review the damage and schedule repairs to improve safety.  WTOL

FINANCE NEWS

  • A local report explained that while your finances may feel secure, a family member could still struggle. It offered steps on discussing money matters (to help without risking your own security).  WTVG

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Lucas County clerk of courts added Spanish services at the title office at Market Square at 3606 Sylvania Ave. + The bilingual upgrade is intended to help local residents handle title transactions more easily.  The Blade

HEALTH NEWS

  • MedVet Toledo will offer 24/7 weekend care starting Jan. 16 (its Douglas Road clinic). It plans to expand to full 24/7 service by year-end as new vets join the team.  WTVG
  • Local behavioral health therapist Michael Rizzi of New Concepts Behavioral Health explained that addiction develops gradually with physical and behavioral changes — he advises starting calm, non-blaming conversations with loved ones when they are sober.  WTVG

  • Four tenants at Executive Towers will face trial in February over living conditions worsened after a summer water leak, as they keep rent in escrow while only about 15 residents remain. They seek clear repairs from management (issues have persisted for six months).  WTVG
