COMMUNITY NEWS

  • EatWell Cafe, a community-centered pay-what-you-can cafe, will host its grand opening in the Main Library in downtown Toledo on Thursday, Jan. 15 from noon to 3 p.m. The event will offer a welcoming space for local residents to enjoy fresh meals.  The Blade

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Meta announced on Friday it will purchase power from several nuclear plants in Ohio and Pennsylvania to support its artificial intelligence operations. The move marks a major local business step (a key boost for tech growth) in the region.  WTVG

CULTURE NEWS

  • Woody’s Boathouse and Museum in Archbold offers free tours by appointment and displays a custom wooden boat built in Toledo (Go Ballistic) alongside nautical antiques and Buckeye memorabilia. Founders Dennis and Sherianne Stacy created the museum as a unique local cultural gift.  WTVG

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The 9th annual Tie Event offers a mentorship program where young boys learn essential life skills, including financial literacy and tying a tie. The event, designed for youths from absent father homes, will provide practical skills training in the local community.  WTOL

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • High winds on Friday downed power lines and left several Lucas County offices without electricity, causing outages for thousands in the Toledo area.  The Blade
  • On Friday, Toledo recorded a high of 61°—breaking the 59° record set on Jan. 9, 1880—and data from the National Weather Service shows a warming trend compared to historical winters.  WTOL
  • A resident reported a leak in Swan Creek at Metropark Friday morning, and officials traced it to (a ditch near a Maumee facility) as cleanup is underway.  WTOL

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • City officials said emergency warming centers remain open overnight today and Sunday to help residents cope with low temperatures. One center is at St. Paul’s Methodist (a local community site) to provide safe shelter.  The Blade
  • A Warsaw Street homeowner lost gas and electricity for a week after city crews damaged her home during fire cleanup at a nearby property. City officials said repairs began Friday evening — utilities will be reconnected once fixes are complete.  WTVG
  • On Friday, Jan. 9, Judge Jeffrey Helmick (U.S. District Court) oversaw an oath ceremony at a local library where 40 residents became U.S. citizens. The event showcased community pride and marked an uplifting milestone for newcomers.  The Blade
