- ➤ Dino's Family Restaurant has closed after owner Dean Yakumithis shut the establishment following the death of longtime cook Timothy Haase (who had worked there since he was 19). Regulars and staff grieve the loss of a cherished local spot. WTOL
- ➤ Mia Dessert Bar (4024 N Holland-Sylvania Road) now serves innovative treats including Dubai Chocolate Donuts, Brown Butter Cinnamon Rolls, and Honey Butter Croissants by self-taught baker Mohamed Smaili who named the shop in tribute to his late cat. WTVG

- ➤ Today, 70 support staff members are striking at Springfield Local Schools as part of a 94-worker walkout; workers say they have no choice due to poor conditions - urging administrators to seek a resolution soon. WTOL

- ➤ Unseasonably warm winter weather forced bats to end hibernation early around Toledo today, prompting wildlife centers to care for the endangered animals as they search for scarce food; Nature’s Nursery currently shelters 31 bats — a number expected to grow before their spring release. WTVG
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Pathway is hosting an open house at its office (505 Hamilton St) on Jan. 13 from 1:00 to 6:00 p.m. for walk-in appointments with the Home Energy Assistance Program; a follow-up event is scheduled for Jan. 27 to help eligible Ohioans with winter energy bills. WTVG

- ➤ Olympian Scott Hamilton will host the Sk8 to Elimin8 Cancer event at the Ribbon at Toledo’s Glass City Metropark on Jan. 23 from 4:30 p.m. to 6:30 p.m. and 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. to raise funds for his Cares Foundation and Nationwide Children’s Hospital Toledo. WTVG
- ➤ Air tests near the old Bunting Bearings plant in Delta showed lead levels nearly 5 times the national standard. Demolition (which began in November) is on hold as EPA and local schools take extra precautions by limiting outdoor time. WTVG
- ➤ Officials announced today that the number of recommended children’s vaccines is reduced from 17 to 11, effective immediately — a local pediatrician warned this change may lead to a return of preventable illnesses and urged parents to consult their doctor. WTVG
