- ➤ Susie's Coats for Kids, a program that has provided winter apparel for local children for 19 years (13,000 items distributed so far), received a $1,300 donation from Yark Automotive Group and 13 Action News to help meet record demand this winter. WTVG
- ➤ A blighted building at 2246 N. Detroit Ave will be demolished today to create a green space for Boys & Girls Clubs, as part of the Brownfield Remediation Program funded by Lucas County Land Bank. - ➤ At a Toledo Rotary Club meeting, officials recognized the Toledo Police Next Door program, which started three years ago to help officers with down payment assistance for buying homes (the program is privately funded). WTOL
- ➤ At its first meeting on Monday, the Rotary Club of Toledo discussed a new private initiative called the Toledo Police Next Door Program (offering down payment assistance for police officers to buy homes), and the program has already helped 21 officers, including 18 first-time buyers. WTVG

- ➤ Toledo small-business owner Sugar Vermonte, a drag queen known for his mac-and-cheese food truck, announced his candidacy for Ohio’s 9th Congressional District on Monday, Jan. 5. He will run as a Libertarian to challenge incumbent Marcy Kaptur and other contenders. WTVG
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ A patient’s fall case from Mercy Health (St. Vincent Medical Center) in Lucas County will be heard by the high court on Thursday. The legal hearing will decide if the hospital can be held liable when claims against staff are filed too late. WTVG
