About this event

Step into a series of immersive environments where light and sound foster connection and invite you to see yourself—and each other—differently.

Losing Ourselves Together brings the visionary work of Toledo-born artist Bobby Anspach home for the first time. Anchored by three immersive “eye machines,” along with sculptures, paintings, and works on paper, the exhibition invites visitors into shared and deeply personal experiences that shift perception and illuminate our connection to one another and the world around us. One machine that is fully ADA accessible is available.

Losing Ourselves Together introduces the work of Toledo-born artist Bobby Anspach through an experience designed to be felt as much as seen.

At the heart of the exhibition are Anspach’s Place for Continuous Eye Contact sculptures—environments that use light, sound, and carefully constructed optical effects to create an altered sense of time and space. Some experiences are introspective; others invite two visitors to engage together, fostering moments of direct human connection.

During the exhibition, museum staff will guide visitors using a simple protocol involving an eye patch and headphones. As color, light, and sound begin to shift, the boundary between self and surroundings softens—opening space for reflection, presence, and connection.

The exhibition also features a dedicated restorative space, offering visitors the ability to reflect on their experience.
