In this workshop, we will use acrylic paint to bring our subject, a Northern Cardinal, to life. We will start by creating a beautiful background, using soft blending techniques. Next, we will add our bird and bring it to the forefront using bright colors and adding details. The bird will stand out as we highlight its most striking features. Participants will paint on an 8”x 8” canvas. Photo references will be available for participants. Little to no experience necessary. All supplies will be provided. As a bonus, a portion of the proceeds from this workshop will help support the Ottawa National Wildlife Refuge.
Artist Profile: My name is Julie Bomia. I am a pediatric social worker by profession but an artist at heart. I am a self-taught artist. I enjoy providing painting workshops in hopes that others will uncover their hidden ability to paint and find as much joy in it as I do. My acrylic paintings are inspired by the local landscape and of course, birds! I love to paint the birds in my own backyard and bring them to life on canvas with the use of color, shadows, and texture. My paintings are photorealistic, and my goal is to trick the eye into thinking the painting is a photograph. I hope for my viewers to see the beauty that is so unique for each bird. Whether it is a bright red crest or a dark black crown, each bird has a distinct beauty, and each will shine in its own way.
