Toledo native Hannah Bowlus brings a thoughtful, hands-on exploration of form and perception to TMA’s Community Gallery, now located within the Glass Pavilion, with Origin Point. Working across glass sculpture, lighting, and furniture, Bowlus invites visitors into a connected system of objects rooted in simple geometry—and rich in possibility.

Origin Point presents the relationship between the sphere and the cube in glass sculptures, lighting, and furniture by Toledo-based artist Hannah Bowlus. This connected system of objects shares a common geometric inspiration while varying in their individual forms and materials. Through close investigation and hands-on interaction, you are invited to find relationships between geometry, design, and perception.

Artist Statement

From the macro to the micro, a common pattern of geometric shapes can be seen throughout our physical world. The explanations for this phenomenon are varied—and, depending on who you ask, inconclusive. Whether it is coincidence, divine intelligence, or our simulation’s programming, this geometry is a fact of our existence and of the material world. We find in these patterns a profound beauty and natural balance that has been and continues to be a strong creative inspiration for people across time.

Within this pattern, the cube and the sphere stand out as fundamental expressions.
